In I’m Glad My Mom Died， Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail—just as she chronicles what happens when the dream finally comes true。 Cast in a new Nickelodeon series called iCarly， she is thrust into fame。 Though Mom is ecstatic， emailing fan club moderators and getting on a first-name basis with the paparazzi （“Hi Gale！”）， Jennette is riddled with anxiety， shame， and self-loathing， which manifest into eating disorders， addiction， and a series of unhealthy relationships。 These issues only get worse when， soon after taking the lead in the iCarly spinoff Sam & Cat alongside Ariana Grande， her mother dies of cancer。 Finally， after discovering therapy and quitting acting， Jennette embarks on recovery and decides for the first time in her life what she really wants。

I don’t think this kind of reads should be evaluated， but still I grade it as a 4 stars review。 It must have been really difficult to overcome the change even when the people around her didn’t wanted her to do it， society had the childish version of her stuck in their minds。 Sometimes we’re so used to something that we don’t realize the damage it causes to others and even more important to ourselves。 No matter who we are， at the end we’re just a person trying to live our life in the best possibl I don’t think this kind of reads should be evaluated， but still I grade it as a 4 stars review。 It must have been really difficult to overcome the change even when the people around her didn’t wanted her to do it， society had the childish version of her stuck in their minds。 Sometimes we’re so used to something that we don’t realize the damage it causes to others and even more important to ourselves。 No matter who we are， at the end we’re just a person trying to live our life in the best possible way， or at least get through it nicely。 。。。more

If you’re someone that has a narc mom this may be a hard read but I can’t tell you how amazing it was to hear someone voice so many of my inside thoughts/experiences。 The ones I have never and will never tell anyone。 I cried a billion times but loved every second of this book。

Fascinating and upsetting look at McCurdy’s tormented life while all the public saw was the smiling and laughter of iCarly。 Reminded me a little of Westover’s Educated with a naive child at the mercy of an emotionally abusive and controlling parent。 The story broke my heart — McCurdy suffered endlessly and I’m sure will continue to live with the aftermath of her trauma。 TW: eating disorders

This book caught my attention just from the first few pages。 Reading this heartbreaking recounting of Jennette’s experiences made me feel every emotion。 Her writing style is so raw and honest and beautiful。 It made me realize things about myself that I never fully recognized， and encouraged me to reach out for help。 I would highly recommend this read！

I didn’t know anything about Jennette McCurdy prior to reading her memoir。 This book was eye opening for me regarding the pressures that famous youth face。 What her mothers influence has done to her in combination with the pressure of being famous， will be a life long battle for her to overcome。
